Kalu Uche (karis)
Kalu Uche is a contemporary Nigerian artist who hails from Lagos State. After completing junior secondary school, he enrolled at Government Technical College Lagos, where he pursued studies in graphic art. During this time, he also received training at Atoss Art Gallery as a sculptor from 1995 to 1998. Following his diploma in graphic art and painting, Kalu proceeded to Federal Polytechnic Oko in Anambra State, Nigeria, where he obtained a national diploma in fine and applied art.
While at Federal Polytechnic Oko, Kalu undertook various projects in both sculptures and paintings, including notable works such as the relief sculpture of the 14 stations of the cross and the Last Supper at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Umunaji, as well as window arcs and fancy pillars at Ozubulu. Additionally, he created wooden carvings for Beverly Hill Hotel in Nnewi, all within Anambra State. During his time in school, Kalu also organized a group exhibition with his fellow students in 2001.
Upon graduating from Federal Polytechnic Oko, Kalu embarked on his career as a visual artist, specializing in various painting styles such as realism, impressionism, abstract, portrait, landscape, seascape, and still-life paintings. He is also skilled in sculpting and considers himself a moralist. Kalu finds inspiration for his art in the people and nature that surround him, reflecting his diverse interests and talents as an artist.

Artist Biography
KALU UCHE KARIS was born 1st January 1975, in Isiugwu Ohafia, Abia State, Nigeria. Raised in Lagos State. After junior secondary school (JSSCE), I enrolled at the Government Technical College, Lagos. (G.T.C) where I study Graphic Art. While in G.T.C, I also study sculpting at ATOSS ART GALLERY as part time between 1995 and 1998. After my diploma in graphic art and painting, I proceeded to Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra state, Nigeria. Where I obtained National Diploma in Fine and Applied art. I have handle different project in sculptures and paintings around Anambra State while I was still in school, including Relief sculpture works of 14 stations of the cross, and the Lord Supper in St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Umunagi, Anambra State, window arc, fancy pillars in Ozubulu, a wooden carve masks in Beverly Hill Hotel, Nnewi, Anambra State. In 2001, I participate in a group exhibition with my fellow students. After graduating from Federal Polytechnic, Oko, I began my own career as painter. I specialise in realism, impressionism, abstract, portrait paintings, landscape, seascape , still life drawing and paintings and also muralist. I find my most interesting subjects in people and nature around me. Since 2002, my paintings have been purchased by individuals, art collectors, hotels and art lovers, galleries and expatriates . In September 2004, I was invited to showcase my work art at the Book and Art exhibition Fair at the National Museum Lagos. A born artist, I enjoy painting on canvas and sculpting.
