Julien Mermet is a contemporary French sculptor. His expertise lies in various disciplines of woodworking, including cabinetmaking, marquetry, turning, and woodcarving. The culmination of these experiences, combined with his passionate self-guided learning, has enabled him to create art with a distinct and unconventional character.
Immersed in introspective contemplation since early childhood, driven by a rebellious temperament against conformity, and unsettled by the chaotic commotion of the world, his inner crucible simmered with uncertainty and hesitation during his youth. What may have appeared as laziness was, in fact, a transformative journey - a mental laboratory - allowing the artist to derive meaning from abstract concepts, to mold the material, and extract the essence.
