This started as a very minimalist abstract work and one day while looking at a black and white film photograph I had taken of NYC in the studio, I decided I wanted to create a first person image of the moment. My hand holding the photograph rests on my leg which is propped up on a stool. The playful abstraction of the skyline is rendered in warm colors that seem to flow out from the photo. I spent much of my life in this city that has already changed so much since I lived there, since the memories took place that are ever present in my mind. In this new post-Covid age, as people are leaving the big cities at an increasing rate, unsure whether I want to return in the future or not, I still feel like a part of me is missing without it, like it is something I've lost.

Born in 1986 in Buffalo, New York, Jeffry grew up on the beach with artist parents and moved to New York City in 2002 at the age of 15 to attend the Professional Performing Arts School’s acting program. After eleven years of struggling to stay in the city, in 2013 at age 26 he returned to Western New York and his family. 

Back in his father’s studio and able to paint again for the first time in years, Burke rediscovered his love of the medium and immediately began creating a variety of work. Over the following decade he has continued to develop his own unique style and voice as an artist, selling and being commissioned for new works.
