Dans le musée Picasso
Jean-Marie Virat is a photographer who has been practicing photography for over 25 years. From film until the end of the 90s, he moved to digital in the 2000s. From 2008-2009 his photo activity took on a more sustained rhythm.
Almost self-taught, he took a course from the City of Paris over a year (1999-2000) and participated in a few internships. In 2014 he decided to propose a first exhibition. Since then he has made several.
His work is essentially in color, urban and graphic, even if he also practices what is called street art, street scenes. Here again the graphic organization creates the atmosphere. Lines structure his photographs and offer a rhythm to their reading.
He “shoots” mainly in town, in Paris and during his travels, with a particular affection for Asia. His masters: above all a painter, Paul Klee. And in photo, Saul Leiter and Harry Gruyaert.
A theme crosses the periods: facades. With meticulous graphics and framing, he tries to convey their poetry, their music. He compares these works to compositions for which we would have privileged the rhythms. More broadly, he remains fascinated by flat surfaces. With his exhibition walls ripe he tried to talk about the time that passes on the walls.
