Tiré de tableau Sermon sur la montagne, de Carl Heinrich Bloch fait en 1877.
Il s'agit ici d'une série de pochoir évoquant un discours célèbre du Christ qui a bouleversé l'humanité et installé des valeurs morales d'une valeur céleste dans le coeur des hommes qui cherchaient Dieu. Cette prise de parole a été appelé les béatitudes, il marquait pour l'humanité une nouvelle étape vers l'évolution de l'homme vers le divin.
La particularité des béatitudes est de placer les pauvres et les doux comme futurs héritiers de la création, ainsi que d'annoncer que les véritables élus de Dieu seront persécutés mais seront dans le bonheur car ils hériteront du Royaume des Cieux et de la vie éternelle.

+ Voyant les foules, il gravit la montagne, et quand il fut assis,
ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui.
Et prenant la parole, il les enseignait en disant :
Heureux ceux qui ont une âme de pauvre, car le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
Heureux les doux, car ils posséderont la terre.
Heureux les affligés, car ils seront consolés.
Heureux les affamés et assoiffés de la justice, car ils seront rassasiés.
Heureux les miséricordieux, car ils obtiendront miséricorde.
Heureux les cœurs purs, car ils verront Dieu.
Heureux les artisans de paix, car ils seront appelés fils de Dieu.
Heureux les persécutés pour la justice, car le Royaume des Cieux est à eux.
Heureux êtes-vous quand on vous insultera, qu’on vous persécutera, et qu’on dira faussement contre vous toute sorte d’infamie à cause de moi.
Soyez dans la joie et l’allégresse, car votre récompense sera grande dans les cieux
C’est bien ainsi qu’on a persécuté les prophètes, vos devanciers.

"Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Une ville ne se peut cacher, qui est sise au sommet d’un mont. Et l’on n’allume pas une lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, mais bien sur le lampadaire,où elle brille pour tous ceux qui sont dans la maison.
Ainsi votre lumière doit-elle briller devant les hommes afin qu’ils voient vos bonnes œuvres et glorifient votre Père qui est dans les cieux. +
