Come definire stile Simbolismo ?

Il simbolismo è un movimento artistico che riunisce molti artisti con approcci divergenti. Non unisce gli artisti sotto la stessa bandiera, ma li riunisce nella difesa di un pensiero comune. Gli artisti di questo movimento ritengono che l'arte debba rappresentare il mondo interiore, quello degli stati d'animo e delle emozioni dell'artista. Sono ispirati dalla poesia, dal mistero, dal romanticismo e dalla loro stessa sensibilità. Investono nell'irrazionale attraverso diversi mezzi: immaginazione, sogni, ipnosi, droghe o anche psicoanalisi (ricerca dell'inconscio). Cercano di creare un impatto psicologico nel cervello di chi guarda, attraverso argomenti ricorrenti come l'occulto, le esperienze mistiche, l'erotico e il perverso. Le punte di diamante di questa corrente sono gli artisti francesi Odilon Redon e Gustave Moreau, i cui universi onirici e macabri ci fanno scoprire il lato oscuro della vita.
