ABOUT
My interest lies in exploring identity and expressing the fragility of human nature through abstract shapes, colours and textures.
Inspired by places, experiences and emotions I seek to explore the facade we present to the outer world and uncover the authentic self buried in our past.
Bio
My creative journey started with photography, experimenting with camera settings and special lenses to create abstract and atmospheric photographic images of everyday life, drawing emphasis to colour and light. It was these images that inspired me to take up soft pastels, and during this time I was encouraged by my tutor to also explore representational art. My closely cropped compositions of highly detailed animals and floral subjects were an attempt to merge hyperrealism with abstraction.
In the middle of 2021, I started to reassess my intentions as an artist. I had always been drawn to the movement, colours and textures of the Abstract Expressionists, so I started experimenting with pastel grounds and mediums to instil more texture into my art. However, it was near the end of 2022 after attending a Cold Wax Medium workshop that I found oils and the cold wax medium allowed me to more fully explore and develop my abstract visual language.
My interest lies in exploring identity and how this changes as we move through the different times and spaces in our lives. History is embedded in our identity and each space is interdependent serving us as a whole.
