This work delves into the complex interplay between modernity, consumerism, and globalization in contemporary society. It employs packaging cartons sourced from local marketplaces as the building blocks of a visual narrative. These cartons, dissected and reassembled, serve as a symbolic representation of the very DNA of consumerism, forming the foundation of my artistic compositions.
As an individual of African descent who has migrated to one of Europe's largest urban centers, Berlin, Henok has had the opportunity to witness firsthand the stark disparities in consumerist cultures when juxtaposed with his hometown of Addis Ababa.

Henok Getachew Woldegebreal, a contemporary Ethiopian artist based in Germany, nurtured a dual passion for science and art from an early age. Initially immersing himself in the study of physics for two years, he then transitioned to the Ale School of Fine Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University. Combining his background in physics with his artistic pursuits, Henok's work unfolds through an intuitive creative process, exploring themes such as consumerism, climate change, decolonization, and the societal impact of technology.

Beyond his individual artistic endeavors, Henok is a co-founder of the artist collective Netsa Art Village, based in Ethiopia. The collective is dedicated to actively engaging the community with both local and international art practices, fostering a collaborative and enriching artistic environment.

Henok's artistic footprint extends to prominent venues such as the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum, Kühlhaus in Berlin, Goethe Institute, and Asni Gallery in Addis Ababa.
