The Fukushima nuclear accident was a major nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Ōkuma, Fukushima, Japan which began on March 11, 2011. The proximate cause of the accident was the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, which resulted in electrical grid failure and damaged nearly all of the power plant's backup energy sources. The subsequent inability to sufficiently cool reactors after shutdown compromised containment and resulted in the release of radioactive contaminants into the surrounding environment.[8][9] The accident was rated seven (the maximum severity) on the INES by NISA, following a report by the JNES (Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization).It is regarded as the worst nuclear incident since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, which was also rated a seven on the INES.
Haka is een hedendaagse Russische kunstenaar. Hij is onlangs geïnteresseerd geraakt in een nieuwe trend in de hedendaagse kunst, 'recycling-art' genaamd, waarbij oude, verouderde woonproducten worden omgevormd tot nieuwe kunstobjecten. Kunstrecycling is vooral een alternatief voor traditionele kunstvormen. De moderne samenleving is verslaafd geraakt aan consumentisme, zich niet bewust van het feit dat de hulpbronnen van de planeet eindig zijn. De industriële revolutie in de 19e eeuw vormde het toneel voor een "vuilniscatastrofe" in de 20e en 21e eeuw, zonder duidelijke remedie in zicht, vooral in Rusland, zijn thuisland. Zijn concept is dat items die om verschillende redenen niet worden gerecycled, kunnen worden gebruikt om kunstwerken te maken, ze een tweede leven te geven en een functioneel product om te toveren tot een decoratief of home item in een modern interieur.
