This is the 1st work in the ‘Layered' series.
Usually, my paintings are made by overlapping and overlapping several layers.
I think I completed it today, but when I look at it the next day, something seems lacking, so I add another layer.. The next day, I thought it was too much, so I took out a layer.. After a few days, I don’t think it’s right, so I layer it over again.
My paintings are, after all, the accumulation of my experiences and images of the past.
The beauty of Monet and Rothko’s work that I saw during my business trip to New York.. The orange sunset I saw from the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy during my family trip.. The sad gray sunset I saw last year on my way back from visiting my son in the military.
The image I painted is made up of layers and layers of different colors in my memory.
My current life is also the accumulation of past moments.
The layers of memories and experiences accumulated over a lifetime make up my mind and the layers of traces of life accumulated over decades are expressed in my face.
When you look at someone’s face, you can see the marks of the life they’ve lived. We try to hide it by applying makeup, distracting the eye with shiny jewelry, and wrapping it in a smile, but it’s not easy to hide the traces of a life well lived.
In order not to be ashamed to show it to someone, I put another layer on my painting today, and I also put a layer on the painting of life today.

My name grymC [grim:si] means ‘poem written by painting’ in Korean language.
Complex emotions in my life, various events that I experience.… The people I meet and the scenery of the streets come across… Sometimes through the books I read and the works of other great artists… And above all else, I find clues to images and colors that flash in the beautiful nature.
I’m an explorer and a recorder rather than a painter. What I’m doing is writing poetry using a tool called painting, not language, with beautiful images and colors found in various lives and nature.
The reason why I write poetry with painting, not with words, is because I don’t know the language that properly embodies the beauty of the emotions and colors I felt. I paint because it’s too beautiful to express in language.
Even in objects and situations that are not good for anyone to see, I want to find unique beauty and record it so that it is not forgotten.
Through great works of art, we share the feelings of the artist beyond time and space. I also want to convey the emotions and colors I have experienced to the audience. Just as the work of great artists hundreds of years ago changed my life today, I hope my artwork will inspire your life with positive energy.
