Gerd Reutter is a contemporary German sculptor. Since 1953, Gerd Reutter has made his home in Mannheim, following a journey that took him through various places in Germany, Switzerland, and France. During that time, he used to be a painter, applying weatherproof coatings to the wooden structures on the onion towers of the Jesuit Church. In 1989, he co-founded the cultural association "Industrietempel eV" with friends and family members, and he continues to be an active member to this day. It wasn't until after many years of running his own grocery business that he embarked on his artistic journey, exploring clay modeling upon reaching retirement age. In 2003, the Regional Council of Karlsruhe acquired his sculpture titled "Open End."
Gerd Reutter's ceramic sculptures position him within an artistic lineage that traces back to the early 20th century.By utilizing clay as his chosen medium, he skillfully crafted sculptural works that stood as entirely unique and imaginative creations, thus liberating ceramic sculpture into a distinct and individual art form.
