I find myself continuously returning to sailboats for inspiration on new paintings. I love the dramatic compositions created by their tall masts that stretch up into the sky. This boat in Shoreham caught the light beautifully on its hull and mast creating crisp contrasts with the surrounding deep blues.

Elliot Roworth, a contemporary British painter, immerses himself in the vibrant intersection between the pulsating energy of the city and the serene tranquility of the beach. From his studio in Brighton, Roworth passionately seeks to capture atmospheric effects of light that dance between these two contrasting worlds.
Inspired by the architectural tapestry of urban landscapes, Roworth's artistic journey revolves around unraveling the intricate relationship between static man-made forms and the unpredictable dynamism inherent in both people and nature. His canvases become a canvas for exploring the delicate balance between structure and spontaneity, revealing the interplay of human activity and the ever-changing forces of the natural environment.
Crucial to Roworth's artistic process is his proximity to the sea, a source of perpetual fascination that fuels his exploration of seascape painting. The South facing coastline, with its uninterrupted sweep of the sun throughout the day, offers an expansive palette of light effects and reflections. This proximity to the dynamic coastal environment allows Roworth to refine his ability to capture the fast-changing light unique to seascapes.
The urgency inherent in working en plein air, with nature as both collaborator and adversary, has profoundly shaped Roworth's painting style. His work exudes immediacy and directness, a reflection of the spontaneous encounters with shifting light and atmospheric conditions. Roworth's canvases, infused with the essence of the coastal environment, invite viewers to witness the interplay of light, form, and the ever-evolving dance of elements on the British shoreline.
