“When I see horses, they are as individual to me as any human. Some express a kind of nobility, while others may be more pensive, playful, or gregarious. A horse’s eye is indeed a window to their soul, but there are so many other subtleties that come into play. Horses are known to have more facial expressions than primates and each has their own distinct personality as well as physical differences. The nuance of a horse’s profile, their ears, muzzle, and shape of neck, are just some of the features that help form their character portrait. It is my goal to capture that essence for you the viewer.” Debra

Debra's dertigjarige achtergrond als een van Canada's meest erkende paardentrainers geeft haar een uniek perspectief op haar onderwerpen in het wild – vooral wilde paarden – terwijl ze intieme en genuanceerde foto's maakt. Debra woont momenteel in Foothills County, Alberta, en is eigenaar van de Garside Art Gallery & Studio in Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, BC.
Gedurende Debra's artistieke carrière heeft ze vele internationale fotografieprijzen ontvangen. Wat nog belangrijker is, is dat ze het respect heeft gekregen van natuuronderzoekers en zoölogen voor de diepgaande studies van haar proefdieren en de landen die ze bewonen. Debra's neiging om dieper te graven is een van de eigenschappen waardoor ze zich onderscheidt. In 2018 ontving Debra een Fellowship van de Royal Canadian Geographical Society voor haar rol als docent op het gebied van fotografie en natuur.
Tot Debra's meest gewaardeerde onderscheidingen behoren de onderscheidingen die haar zijn toegekend voor haar beelden van de Canadese ijsberen. Deze werden erkend door de Nature's Best Photography - Windland Smith Rice Awards Very Honored Award en opname in de fotografietentoonstelling van het Smithsonian Institute of Natural History. Haar werk is ook verschenen in de tentoonstelling Wildlife Photographer of the Year van het Natural History Museum (VK) in Koninklijke Musea over de hele wereld.
Debra heeft tientallen prijzen gewonnen van de International Photography Awards, Black & White Spider Awards, Oasis Magazine Awards (Italië), Lens Culture Photography Awards, Photolife Photography Awards, Calgary Stampede Photography Awards, Canada Parks & Wilderness Awards en nog veel meer.
