David Donnelly was born in Balbriggan, North Co. Dublin in 1948.
He has lived beside the sea all his life, and is constantly drawn to its ever changing moods and colours. His home is literally within a stone’s throw of the sea, so naturally, it inspires so much of his work.
He is an admirer of the works of contemporary artists such as Davis Curtis, Alvaro Castagnet, and Igor Sakharov.
In the past, he worked as a draughtsman and freelance cartoonist. His work regularly appeared in most of the Irish National and U.K. newspapers and magazines. In 1998, he took early retirement, and rekindled his love of painting. He is rapidly established himself as an artist whose work is in great demand. He works mainly in oils and acrylics, painting a diverse range of subjects from landscape to marine scenes, mainly in realistic styles.
To date, David has three joint, and fifteen solo exhibitions, all of which have been successful. His work is found in private collections in Australia, France, U.S.A, England, Wales, and of course, Ireland
