Martin Luther Kings Assassination . I see so little much in the art world about African American history. I was around 12 years old when this tragic event happened. My mom said they killed our leader, and was very distraught. I actually wasn't sure , back then, who exactly who our leader was. The news of the major riots across the country was also disturbing.. But I remember the violence against the many civil rights protesters that proceeded the assassination also troubled me as well. I couldn't understand why the protesters weren't fighting back. With this picture my objective was to capture the emotions of a tragic incident, and the violence that erupted as a result of MLK assassination. Like many of my art work I wanted to attract the audience visual appeal , allowing them to focus on the ugly event. The mysterious figure ( the assassin) at the left represents evil.

Cyril Harris, a contemporary American painter, has dedicated himself to his art despite the constraints of a busy schedule. Rising at 5:30 am each morning before work, Cyril carved out precious hours to devote to his craft. His commitment paid off when he was awarded several art scholarships for painting at Houston's Glassell art school, a testament to the quality of work he produced.

Although Cyril's artistic journey was initially hindered by time constraints, retirement has afforded him the opportunity to fully immerse himself in his passion. With newfound freedom, Cyril is gaining confidence and honing the skills necessary to master his art.

While much of Cyril's work revolves around themes related to the African American experience, he believes that this perspective is often underrepresented in the art world. Drawing from his own life and experiences, Cyril infuses his paintings with depth and authenticity, offering a unique and compelling glimpse into his world.

As Cyril continues to refine his craft, his work serves as a powerful expression of identity, culture, and the human experience. With each brushstroke, he invites viewers to engage with his art and explore the rich tapestry of stories and emotions that define his artistic vision.
