Bernard Dumas, artist photographer, has a double identity as a filmmaker. He is dedicated to making documentaries for television and museums, while cultivating a long-standing passion for personal photography. His film career has been marked by the creation of six films for the MuCEM, screened in the permanent exhibition of the Galerie de la Méditerranée. His exceptional contribution has earned him awards at several prestigious festivals, including Biarritz, Lille, Futuroscope, Bratislava and Porto.
Bernard Dumas, however, is not limited to the screen. He also expresses himself through photography, regularly exhibiting his works to the public. His recent exhibitions testify to his artistic diversity and his commitment to visual sharing. Among these, the exhibition at the Chapelle de l'Oratoire in Avignon in September 2022, as well as "Un pas de cote" in Sablet in July 2022, exploring the theme of the vine.
His artistic approach emanates as much from poetic strolling as from the desire to testify. Each image he captures reflects the idea of sharing lived moments, where silence and the implicit are at stake. Bernard often photographs intuitively, during filming, travels or simple wanderings. Through his compositions, he seeks to capture fragments of reality and history, which he sometimes transforms into intentionally blurred or abstract compositions. His photographs evoke more than what they show, giving way to an evocative and mental dimension, thus revealing a part of the imagination on the margins of the visible frame. His work embodies the harmonious fusion between the visual and the felt, creating images that inspire wonder while leaving room for personal interpretation.
