D'après une peinture du français néoclassique Jérôme-Martin Langlois (1779-1838) présentée au salon de 1822 suite à une commande royale de 1817 destinée au palais de Versailles. Inspiré des Métamorphoses d'Ovide, la scène représente à droite, Endymion endormi, le bras droit replié sous sa tête et couché sur une peau de panthère ; il tient de la main gauche un javelot, son chien est à ses pieds, et un amour qui vole soulève la draperie dont il était enveloppé. A gauche, Diane, le carquois sur l'épaule, suspendue dans les airs semble impressionnée par le jeune berger. Cette œuvre a disparu de l'inventaire du Musée de Picardie en 1918. Les dimensions de l'original sont: Hauteur : 3,2 m ; Largeur : 2,11 m, ce qui est trois fois plus grand que la présente exécution.
