Mauritius (lateinisch, auch Mauricius; deutsch: Moritz, französisch Maurice; angeblich bei Theben in Ägypten; † angeblich um 290 in Agaunum (Saint-Maurice) im Wallis) war der Legende nach der Anführer (lateinisch Primicerius) der Thebaischen Legion und wird in der katholischen und der orthodoxen Kirche seit dem 4. Jahrhundert als Heiliger verehrt. Sein evangelischer und römisch-katholischer Gedenktag ist der 22. September, während der orthodoxe Gedenktag auf den 27. Dezember fällt.
Der heilige Mauritius war ein Schutzheiliger des Heeres, der Infanterie, der Messer- und Waffenschmiede und wurde angerufen vor Kämpfen, Gefechten und Schlachten.
Das Reichsschwert und die Heilige Lanze, Teile der Reichskleinodien, wurden ab dem Hochmittelalter ebenfalls auf den heiligen Mauritius zurückgeführt.

Mauritius (Latin, also Mauricius; German: Moritz, French Maurice; supposedly near Thebes in Egypt; † supposedly around 290 in Agaunum (Saint-Maurice) in Valais) was, according to legend, the leader (Latin Primicerius) of the Theban Legion and is in venerated as a saint by the Catholic and Orthodox Churches since the 4th century. His Protestant and Roman Catholic feast day is September 22nd, while the Orthodox feast day falls on December 27th.
Saint Mauritius was a patron saint of the army, infantry, knife and weapon makers and was invoked before fights, skirmishes and battles.
The imperial sword and the holy lance, parts of the imperial regalia, were also traced back to Saint Mauritius from the High Middle Ages onwards.
