The Conference Room
The Conference Room was created out of much spite for the Curatorial Practices of the Status Quo Institutions that close doors to artists because of lack of resumes, lack of formal education, pigeon hole styles, the must be classified and get someone else to say it's good before they procure the financial backing to put an artist on the walls or floors or ceilings. More over the idea is to create a less didactic environment where the art does the talking and the viewer can create their own interpretation of what the work is trying to say. We strive to create an experience VS entertainment aspect synonymous with Los Angeles. Bored with gallery after gallery lumping artists together in group shows or as I like to call it the preverbal FRIED RICE style of exhibitions that hire DJ's and create pay to play bars; rather my intention is to create under one roof works on display with out confusing mash up styles of work. This is not to say that a MASH UP thematic show cannot work or be a success but rather let the work create the narratives. The artists that will be conducting meetings are not what one would expect to see in Beverly Hills but instead art that which directly speaks to the heart of the GLAM capitol perception. Curatorial focus will be put into each and every meeting with much discourse collaborated between the gallery and the artists conducting the meetings exhibition.

This is Wolfryds first solo exhibition with the gallery. It has been 10 years since wolfyrd’s last solo show in the
Los Angeles area.
“Wolfryd’s work focuses on the dual nature, whether it be the activists concern about US corporations’ high level and extreme marketing into international markets, specifically those of and surrounding Mexico. Juxtaposed by the current US state of affairs where little focus was put by US corporations into their own infrastructure or survival at home.
Wolfryd’s use of subject matter shows the relationship and replacement or rapid eradication of Hispanic culture in both countries. Taking traditional religious icons and replacing them with items available at any grocery store or Mercado.
Wolfryd has studied painting and drawing from institutions both in the United States and Mexico. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in various museums and galleries throughout Mexico, Western Europe and United States. His work has been on display at The Diego Rivera House Museum in Guanajuato, MX and The Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, CT. Wolfryd has been selected for public and private exhibitions and collections including “Between two worlds” 2007, Palm Desert, CA Public Works and “Cow parade” 2005, Mexico City, MX.DF.” - Albert Wang
The artist currently remains bi-city choosing to live between his studios here in Los Angeles and Mexico City.

Inaugural Group Exhibition
November 8 – December 4, 2008
Opening reception, Saturday, November 8, 7 – 11PM
Los Angeles, CA November 8, 2008 – The Conference Room Gallery, in celebration of its new space where West Adams and Culver City meet inside one of Adams Blvd many Movie palaces from a long gone era, is excited to present its inaugural exhibition, Meeting . This group exhibition will feature emerging artists that work in a multiplicity of mediums, discipline and execution. Each artist will represent or reflect the message and vision of blurring the lines between the hierarchies of trained artists and self taught artists.
Meeting features 18 intoxicating new artists: Billy Reynolds, Michael Pajon, Bask, Ryan Pratt, Joshua Krause, Robert Burnier, Darren Breen, Chase Tafoya, JoKa, Barry Wolfryd, Clinton Neuhaus, Paul Torres, Greg Lukens, Mat Taylor, Fabrice Lavollay, Ernie Velasco and Eli Sipsas. This exhibition will be for some, a first time showing before the Los Angeles art audience. Each artist represents the evolvement of their work as are newer versions of software, electronics, automobiles, in modern rapid succession.
Burnier, Velasco, Krause, and Bask are all self-taught artists stemming from found objects, urban pop, melancholy, theoretical conclusions and constant compulsions and manipulations of objects and tools, yet Pratt, Sipsas & Torres each represent a 15 year span of learning from the same school, Pajon, Lavollay, JoKa, Wolfryd, Reynolds, Lukens, Breen and Tafoya each finished art programs from prominent schools and universities throughout the United States and Internationally and all have wildly different approaches, mediums and styles where the artist having the degree could be interpreted as self-taught and the self-taught artist could be interpreted as decorated art college training. But all are emerging masters of their chosen medium and as any quality piece evolves only to have learned from their past success and works, striving to stretch and improve upon the original.
Each artist brings with them a different medium or completely different use of the same medium, from oil on linen to digital editions on archival paper. Their choices and uses of anything that comes to their minds to obtain their desired effect is exactly as the overall philosophy of the gallery.
The artists featured in the Meeting exhibition will either be holding a solo, two or three person exhibition throughout the year and 2009.
