Stéphane Lotodé is a contemporary French painter who embarked on his artistic journey in October 2017. Having led a life off the beaten path, his experiences have significantly influenced his art.
For Lotodé, painting is a vital outlet, a way to express gratitude for life and an unconscious trace of his experiences, serving as a testimony and emotional exposure of both the present and the past. The act of painting overwhelmed him and transformed his existence, marking a profound shift in his life.
As a self-taught artist, Lotodé has chosen to forego formal training, preferring to discover his style and techniques through instinct and personal exploration. He advances step by step, at his own pace, painting about two hundred works so far. Until recently, he had neither the desire nor the time to publicly display his art. Currently on a break, he has chosen to showcase his work on Armajeur, daring to expose himself to a broader audience.
Lotodé enjoys confronting the energy of shapes and lines with the luminous energies of colors, aiming to create an emotion and visual reaction to share with viewers. This is his sole approach and ambition. Each painting represents a happy encounter for him, a suspended moment, particular and detached from reality.
In Lotodé's view, a painting should not be commented on by its author once it is finished and exposed to the public. He believes that the artwork then possesses its own existence and speaks for itself, resonating differently with each viewer through their unique perceptions and sensations.
Lotodé is irremediably drawn to expressionist and abstract expressionist works, including movements such as Die Brücke, Der Blaue Reiter, Cobra, Fauves, Brut, and Nabi. Naturally, his painting often tends towards these styles, reflecting his deep affinity with these influential artistic movements.
