Although I like to paint street scenes, every street scene is a challenge for me.
For the complicated elements of street scenes, how to handle the picture subjectively is actually testing the painter's ability to generalize. In this painting, I wanted to try some more methods that I had not used in the past. I geometrized and symbolized all the elements in the painting. The most obvious one is the geometric treatment of the passerby.
And this time I wanted to show some different atmosphere in the picture. With street scenes, often I am more used to creating a noisy, crowded atmosphere. However, since 2020, you should have seen and experienced a city with few pedestrians and vehicles on the road at one time or another. I deliberately concentrated all the pedestrians and vehicles in a small area in the center of the picture, so that most of the space in the picture appears to be "empty". The final result is a cold, lonely city.
