Dupré’s work explores this cyclical process that is imperative to regeneration. Buried with charcoal and flooded with turpentine, her canvases capture the plumes of dust that are needed for a new and fertile figure-ground to emerge. The individual moments within the cycle of death and regrowth lends themselves to the concept of a short-lasting infinity. Dupré uses graphite, oils, tar, house paint, acrylics, pigments, and pastels to create layered abstract paintings that are both gestural and dense. Expressive and tactile, Dupré’s compositions strike a balance between weighted and airy marks.

Sarah Dupré is a non-objective American abstract artist whose creative journey is deeply rooted in her upbringing in South Central Louisiana and her subsequent move to Illinois in 2015. Born and raised amidst the vibrant landscapes of Louisiana, Dupré developed a profound connection to the natural world, which continues to influence her artistic practice to this day.

Dupré's artistic education began at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2015. She further honed her skills and expanded her artistic horizons at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2018.

Known for her innovative use of materials and techniques, Dupré's work transcends traditional boundaries, blending elements of drawing, painting, and collage to create visually arresting compositions. Drawing inspiration from industrial processes and the natural environment, her art explores themes of erosion, liberation, and the cyclical cycle of decay and regrowth.

Dupré's fascination with the American landscape and the collective psyche of diverse communities informs her artistic practice, resulting in a body of work that serves as a poignant reflection of the human experience. Her most recent two-person exhibition, "Translation of Space," held at Purple Window Gallery in Chicago in 2023, showcased smaller studies that underscored her influence from the stains seeping out of man-made industrial landscapes.

Visually guided by the oil rig lines running through coastal waterways and the trails of construction deposits on overpasses, Dupré's work captures the essence of urban landscapes in flux. Her compositions feature a juxtaposition of marks of power and marks of abandonment, bearing witness to the complex interplay between human activity and the environment.

Dupré's artistic vision has garnered recognition, with her work being published in New American Paintings and set to appear in an upcoming Apple TV series. Through her art, she seeks to distill excerpts of the environment and offer a thought-provoking commentary on the past, present, and future of the American landscape. As she continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, Sarah Dupré remains a dynamic force in the contemporary art world, captivating audiences with her evocative and thought-provoking creations.
