The memory of past loneliness weighed heavily on the heart, a burden that was difficult to shake. The thought of being alone in the world, with no one to turn to or share life's joys and sorrows, was a deeply painful one. It was a feeling of isolation that cut deep into the soul, leaving an indelible mark that was hard to erase.
The shadow of past loneliness lingered as time passed and new friends were made. And though the present was brighter, the past still cast a long shadow, a reminder of how precious and fragile human connections could be. It was a reminder of a time when life seemed bleak and hopeless, a time when every day was a struggle to find meaning and purpose.

Robert Atkinson is a New York City-based photographer trained in traditional analog photography. In 1980 at the age of nineteen, Robert started his journey in photography, shooting with large format cameras and film for a studio on Madison Ave in New York City. In the mid-1990s, he opened his studio in Soho with his wife. At that time, the industry was switching to digital and embraced the freedom and creativity that a digital workflow had to offer. Today, along with his studio, print, and audio work, he concentrates on landscape, avian, and urban exploration themes. Because of the need to recognize the importance of our environment more than ever, the natural world is seen throughout his work.
