Né à Chamonix en 1974, Raphaël MALLON grandit à Saint Gervais. Dès l’enfance, il est ainsi confronté à la pratique de la haute-montagne.
Ces expériences récurrentes le marquent fondamentalement dans la conscience de la dangerosité de ce milieu inhospitalier, de la fragilité de l’homme dans cet environnement et plus généralement, du caractère sursitaire de toute vie.
En cela, le rapport que Raphaël Mallon entretient avec le vide est constitutif de sa démarche artistique. Il travaille à ré-apprivoiser le vide, à se laisser à nouveau surprendre par la présence secrète de la contre-forme et de l’infini dans chacun des sujets qu’il construit.
Il fait ses premiers pas en peinture à la fin des années 90. Une rencontre déterminante l’engage à poursuivre cette voie : Grégogna, artiste peintre pluridisciplinaire, père spirituel de l’École de Sète et de la Figuration Libre, le prend sous son aile et devient son maître.
Établi en région parisienne, Raphaël Mallon entre comme sociétaire au Salon d’Automne à la fin des années 2000.
Il y dirige la section Mythes & Réalités jusqu’en 2015, préférant en refuser la présidence pour se consacrer exclusivement au développement de son art.
Vice-président du Salon de Versailles jusqu’en 2019, il désire retrouver un environnement montagnard, plus propice à la forme de création qui l’anime. Il retourne en Haute-Savoie en 2020 pour y installer son atelier, au cœur d’un petit hameau au col du Feu, sur les hauteurs du Léman.
Raphaël Mallon expose régulièrement lors de salons, à Paris et en Province et à l’étranger.
