Hydrangea is called a plant chameleon, but not all of its species can change the color of flowers. This ability has only large-leaf hydrangea. Snow-white, blue, pink, reddish-purple shades, lush inflorescences and small sharp green leaves - this is what appears proud hydrangea.
The Latin name comes from the Greek words "hydro" - "water" and "angelon" - "vessel" and indicates that all types of hydrangea for its growth need an abundance of moisture.
According to one of the ancient legends, on the day when the Buddha was born (sources claim that it is 473 BC), from the sky fell marvelous beauty flowers and poured sweet nectar "Amacha". Then appeared on the Earth flower Audisi, as it is called the Japanese hydrangea. Even today, Japanese Buddhists Ajisai is a sacred flower, which is grown in temples. From the leaves of hydrangea is prepared in the traditional tea called "amache". This tea is a divine and ritual drink for Buddhists. It is believed to have magical powers and protects against evil spirits, snake bites and insects.
In Europe, this plant got in the eighteenth century. The origin of the name "hydrangea" is associated with a very poetic history. In 1767, making a round-the-world trip on a sailing ship, a French doctor and naturalist Philibert Commerson discovered in one of the Asian countries - whether China or Japan - previously unknown plant.
