This is a desperate man, a lost soul. This is a man with a bank credit.
RGN59 is the (abbreviated) signature of Reign59, the working name of the Oosterhout artist Nick Vermeulen - also working as an independent entrepreneur in his advertising studio.
Since his childhood he has been involved in drawing, painting and designing. In recent years he has found a new passion in sculpting.
Nick mainly works in hard materials like marble, limestone and bronze, and also likes to step out to alabaster, soapstone and ceramics. He travels yearly to Tuscany and Veneto to find marble and alabaster stones for his sculptures.
Since the summer of 2017 he has focusses almost entirely on a very large project, called ‘Grand Dame Blanche’, a life-size statue of Arrebbiato marble. For variety (and to be able to do something in bad weather) he works regularly on smaller torsos and bronze figures - often using materials from nature such as branches, feathers and leaves. Also he stills like to paint on various subjects, mostly acrylic paint on stretched canvas.
Nick gets his inspiration mainly by just observing the people and nature around him.
What he likes or what appeals to him, he processes into nice clean lines, shapes and curves. In most sculpures and paintings you will find mainly feminine lines, shapes and curves, but according to him that is purely coincidental.
