Matthew Sadergaski was born in San Bernardino, California, in 1994. During his childhood, he found delight in drawing cartoon and comic strip characters, quickly realizing his talent for imitating what he saw. As he entered high school, his passion for art intensified, and he began exploring various art styles, ranging from portraiture to abstract expressionism. Drawing faces became his source of joy, as he believed they captured raw and authentic emotions. His exceptional portrait drawings earned him accolades and scholarships, further motivating him to pursue his artistic journey at the university level.
During his university years, Sadergaski discovered the works of influential artists such as Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey, and James Rosenquist. Immersing himself in their art, he began shaping his own unique style, incorporating vibrant colors and infusing pop culture references, often featuring childhood characters and musicians, into his abstract creations. Gradually, he gravitated towards art as his primary focus.
Throughout his university experience, Sadergaski's talent was recognized with numerous awards for his outstanding drawings. His artistic prowess also found a platform in the campus magazine Poetry and Art, where his work was published. Exhibitions in San Bernardino and Lake Arrowhead showcased his evolving body of work. Sadergaski's artistic vision revolves around portraiture, pop culture, and social commentary. He skillfully employs a variety of mediums, including pastels, graphite, ballpoint pens, acrylics, and markers, to bring his creations to life.
Sadergaski's artistic philosophy can be encapsulated by a quote from Edgar Degas: "Art is not what you see, it's what you make others see." He believes in the power of art to provoke thought, evoke emotions, and offer a fresh perspective to viewers. Through his art, Sadergaski aspires to create a visual language that resonates with others and invites them to see the world from new and captivating angles.
