Mario Henrique is a contemporary Portuguese painter. Henrique, a talented portrait artist, finds the unpredictable nature of human behavior - the fleeting glances, the transience of facial expressions, the unexpected movements - to be fascinating.
He paints impulsively, using unusual and "raw" materials including cardboard, reversed canvases, and hardware tools. His method relies on drips, splashes, and throws of paint to make the physicality of the painting process visible in the finished product.
Mario Henrique was born in 1982, in Portugal, where he graduated in Design from Lisbon’s University of Fine Arts. His works are in various private collections across Europe, America and Asia, he has exhibited in galleries both nationally and internationally, and was awarded an Honorable Mention for his participation in the Brasília Biennial of Contemporary Arts 2016.
