I grew up in the suburbs of San Diego during the 1990s and this was, essentially, what I experienced and learned about in my childhood. Note the lack of more multi-cultural areas of the city as I was not exposed to them until later in my adulthood. Education focused mainly on the white accomplishments in the area like the navy, the Missions and the town of Julian. Points of interest were always the beach, The Hotel Del Coronado and Balboa Park. The only hispanic pictured is the one driving a tractor.
BUT not all things can be erased and kept out. My life was still heavily impacted by the extant cultures in the area full of vibrancy and life as portrayed in the use of brilliant colors throughout the work.
A critique but also an homage to the wonderful yet extremely privileged childhood I had in San Diego.

Kelley Hudson, a contemporary American artist, approaches her craft with a profound understanding of the fluidity and evolution inherent in the creative process. Rejecting the notion of encapsulating art within a singular statement, she views artistic expression as a journey of personal growth and transformation.

Hudson's artistic trajectory mirrors her philosophical stance, encapsulating her unwavering commitment to exploring the intricacies of human existence within the ever-shifting tapestry of time and space. Her oeuvre serves as a poignant reflection of the complexities of the human experience, navigating the intersection between historical consciousness and the perpetual flux of the universe.

Central to Hudson's artistic inquiry is an examination of societal constructs and power dynamics, with a particular focus on themes of class disparity, social conflict, poverty, and vulnerability. Through her work, she endeavors to foster equitable dialogue and community engagement, striving to challenge entrenched systems of wealth and authority.

An active participant in community initiatives, Hudson channels her creative energy towards effecting positive change and fostering connections that transcend societal divisions. Her art serves as a catalyst for meaningful conversations and collective action, aimed at addressing the inequalities and fractures within contemporary American society.

For Hudson, the ultimate aspiration as a creative is to craft art that not only resonates aesthetically but also fosters empathy, understanding, and unity among individuals. In her pursuit of art as a vehicle for social transformation, she remains steadfast in her commitment to shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
