Jérôme Bouscarat received his artistic training from the artist Philippe Rillon. He spent three years in Guadeloupe, where he worked in close collaboration with local artist Ulysse Mécano, an experience which had a profound impact on him. The artist's leitmotif is the portrait, whose modernity lies in a mixture of madness, black humor and classic references. Eras and genres interact and respond to each other. We come closer sometimes to academicism and religious painting, sometimes to popular art. “I have a Caribbean culture from my father, a culture that mixes sacred and profane,” explains the artist. I am marked by this influence. » The attention to detail is very present, and reveals the offbeat aspect of the works. Sometimes, the subjects are adorned with animal heads, in a search for the strange, the mysterious, creating an atypical universe tinged with darkness... A universe that we regularly find exhibited both in mainland France and in Guadeloupe. /p>
