This textured piece of art has an abundant amount of meaning to the artist. As he was creating this visual, his mind reflected on hard times of his experience this past year. He used spackle on top of a piece of wood to give it its rough & ridged look, but also set its fragility early that represents his struggles. The Fraser & Reef Green hues symbolizes the calmness and clarity at the turning point of his trials. This is when he finally was able to take a deep breath of peace. The color gives the viewer depth as it resembles looking into the depths of the ocean. Tranquil, yes, but with a luring sense of darkness. This artwork is the start to a series of “construction at home” collection (not yet named). It was meant to be a test project to learn and experience from during its creation. It had gone through several alternations before the clear vision of what the viewer now sees. Everything had been hand crafted by the artist, including the white stained wooden frame.

Born in Marietta, Georgia, Jay Q noticed he had a natural talent in drawing & painting when he took an art class in high school as a prerequisite for a photography class. While studying photography for a semester, he got a job as an assistant at a photography studio close to his school. Throughout the rest of high school, Jay continued taking art which introduced him to multiple uses of mediums and surfaces. He studied art history and graduated with his artist portfolio with recognition as Vice President of the National Art Honors Society of the school. It wasn’t until after starting a photography business and moving to New York & then south Florida until he ventured back into drawing & painting where he found his passion for it again. Jay would say he is an expressionist artist, as he expresses his emotions in his artwork as a releasing outlet. Even though he mostly works with oil paint, he is well versed in encaustic painting, and welcomes other media types as he continues to grow. Jay’s goal is to inspire growth in others through his creativity & love. Although Jay is continuously working on his own art projects, he is open to accepting commissioned work as well. Feel free to contact him for details.
