There is so much mistrust and fear of the others in this world, especially now with the outbreak of Coronavirus. Our plan to be in Italy is on hold due to the anti oriental sentiments that must rage in Italy right now... I am not a Chinese or have been in Wuhan, but that would not matter I suspect. The title of this new artwork is NIKKI。It's not a name. Nikki 日記 in Japanese is jornal writing. 일기 in Korean. We are lonely and isolated now more than ever. Self-quarantining is enforced in places I love - South Korea and Italy. Honesty is such a lonely word, as Billy Joel sang. When are we honest with ourselves? Perhaps when we write our journal. Hence, a letter to myself is the title of this painting. I miss my happy days in Paris. I long for the future when I can go and be lost in the wonderful crowd of people who share my affinity of my love for cafes in Paris... This too, shall pass!

Gina son, nee Young Joo Son, is a Korean-American cafe scene artiste painting her love of Paris in Honolulu, Hawaii.  A global nomad, she has lived, studied in, traveled 3 continents and celebrated life in cafes in cities of Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Rome, Seoul to Santorini.  Studied art since age 5, and speaks four languages.  Fell in love with the French Impressionism art during college years and stayed true to that first love ever since, paying homage to Renoir, Monet, Degas, and Mary Cassatt in her paintings, while also share ambidextrous affinity with Leonardo Da Vinci.  The artiste plans to open her atelier in Paris and is passionate about promoting shared affinities of kinder and gentler way of living with others because the world is brittle and highly impersonal and we are lonelier and more isolated in our personal bubbles in this tech-driven world than ever before.
