Giancarlo Marcocchi is an Italian photographer with an impressive experience of almost 45 years in the field of photography. Born and living until 2003 in Cremona, a city rich in history and culture, Giancarlo then moved his life and art to vibrant Palermo, where he has resided for over twenty years.
His specialization in stage photography is remarkable: he delicately captures the essence of various artistic performances such as dance, jazz concerts, avant-garde theater and cinema. Marcocchi doesn't just capture moments; he reinterprets them, infusing his works with a profound artistic dimension that transcends simple documentation. This unique approach has allowed him to produce numerous exhibitions, where his works are celebrated for their originality and emotional intensity.
In addition to his passion for the stage, Giancarlo Marcocchi expresses his love for portraiture, the human figure and glamour, exploring the complexity of the human and beauty in its multiple facets. Although he is proficient in color photography, he says he feels greater expressive intensity in black and white, a medium he prefers for its ability to convey emotions and atmospheres more strikingly.
His artistic approach is also reflected in his technique: he has long used and continues to use analog media, such as Polaroid and Instax, adding a touch of nostalgia and authenticity to his images. Passionate about the creative process, he also practiced the technique of developing and printing on analog paper, thus enriching his artistic commitment. Today he embraces the benefits of modern technology by using Fine Art paper for his digital prints, always seeking to achieve the best quality in his works.
His dedication to photography and the artistic community of Palermo led him to co-found Collettivof, an association born last year with the aim of promoting art photography. Through this initiative, Giancarlo and his photographer and scholar friends seek to enhance and enrich the cultural landscape of their city.
