After graduating from the Art College in Ashgabat, Garatay Begdjanov continued to improve his knowledge and skills in the fine arts at the Gerasimov Institute of the Cinematography in Moscow, Russia. For a long time, he worked as a cinema artist at the Turkmen Film Studio. As a free artist, he traveled the whole country, sought his way in art, creating paintings, lithographic works, prints. In 1970 he was admitted to the Union of Artists of Turkmenistan. Drawing with pencil, charcoal and sanguine, Garatay masterfully, that is called one movement, transfers to paper the love of a woman, mother, parents, children, nature and everything that is associated with the notion of the Motherland. In recent years, the main theme of his work has become a woman, namely a woman mother, who loves and protects her family. Garatay Begjanov is a laureate of many prestigious exhibitions and international biennale. Two of his graphic works became laureates of the London Biennale in 1989. His artworks are in museums and private collections in the CIS countries, Asia, Europe and the USA.
