Eugène Barricade is a contemporary French artist. He embarked on his artistic journey with tags and graffiti, which soon led him to develop a deep admiration for the works of older artists that still adorn the streets of Paris. The stencils crafted by Mistic, Blek le Rat, and Speedy Graphito intrigued him and introduced him to a novel technique he had never encountered before. From that point on, stenciling became his primary mode of expression.
Simultaneously, he pursued a successful career as an advertising storyboard artist for renowned agencies in Paris, which spanned over 15 years. While he excelled in this field, he couldn't help but feel a pang of regret for setting aside his passion for Street Art, which had blossomed during his youth. In 2011, he made a life-altering decision to leave everything behind and relocate to the south of France, where he established his own studio in Uzès. It was there that he rediscovered the liberating sense of freedom he had experienced at the age of 16.
Presently, his artistic focus revolves primarily around unconventional and urban mediums, employing the stencil technique. He revels in the transformation of everyday objects into unique and astonishing pieces. Through his offbeat humor, he offers an ironic perspective on contemporary society. Eugène Barricade adeptly utilizes and subverts the aesthetic and graphic language of advertising, employing imagery from popular culture in a playful and poetic manner.
