The painting was based on a series of drawings done from the window of a speeding train. I was returning from visiting my son at university in Cornwall, UK with some sadness at leaving him. The painting was based on a series of drawings done from the window of a speeding train. I was returning from visiting my son at university in Cornwall, UK with some sadness at leaving him. But the painting summons the joy I felt seeing him and my delight in the autumnal landscapes that were speeding past my window. I really wanted to capture not only the colours of the autumn trees and fields but also that sense of movement and change that is so much part of the season; I think, also a metaphor for the changes I saw in my growing son. In the painting it was a balance between the broken pattern created in the landscape as viewed through the window and then a sense of space spreading out beyond.

I was born and raised in South Africa where I also received my Art Education with a masters of Fine Arts specialising in Painting. My mother, Lindsay Page is a well-known landscape painter and as a child, I drew and painted alongside her in her studio. After university I worked and travelled to visit the major Art centres of Europe. I settled in Cape Town, holding numerous solo exhibitions and participating in a range of social justice collaborations before moving my home and studio to the shores of the Bosphorus, Istanbul in 2006. Since then commuting and drawing has become an integral part of my practice and presentations.  I have also directed improvised site-specific performance in New York, Cape Town and Istanbul. I continue to travel between Turkey and South Africa for exhibitions and collaborations.
