In the foreground of the composition is a a a young girl, perhaps a mirage from our own childhood memories, walking confidently in the embrace of the shimmering sea. Surrounded by a vibrant lime-green swimming belt, her silhouette stands out against the surrounding soft blue and sea green hues of the water, evoking both a sense of security and adventure. The lime-green accent becomes a focal point, symbolising a touch of daring in an otherwise soothing ambience.
But what really sets "Splash of Lime" apart is the layer of intrigue and mystery embedded in the canvas. Ghostly letters, vaguely visible through the layers of acrylic paint, create an enigmatic texture in the background. These letters, like fragments of forgotten conversations or musings, form a whispered narrative that invites the viewer to weave their own stories and interpretations, adding a rich layer of depth to the artwork.

db Waterman is a contemporary Dutch artist. In her works she assembles original photography, assorted papers, acrylics, oil, charcoal, ink, and pencil. The variety of resources she is able to use has proved indispensable to her. The biggest challenge the collage medium posed was its unforgiving lack of transparency. Finding a way to replicate the effects of transparency afforded by paint, especially watercolors, was a large victory for the artist. The preparing labor shows through in her collages; layer upon layer of material remains visible in the finished pieces.
db Waterman believes that the body of her work is characterized by her skill for reinvention. Having always loved the appearance of weathered walls plastered with peeling paint and old posters, she revived this aesthetic with hopefully a keen and professional eye. The creative objective of her work is to “make something beautiful out of dilapidation.” Her tableaus explore the dissonance between old and new materials, intertwined in the most beautiful way possible to create dreamlike and melancholy images.
