Danil Danilovskii is a contemporary Russian painter. His landscape paintings portray northern nature as harsh, primitive, and pure. He is drawn to urban themes because of the scenery and historic, secular architecture, while his romantic view of the past is expressed in marine landscapes. Oil and canvas are artist’s preferred materials. He alternates between writing in a fluid, liquid style and painting in a thick, corpus style. He favors muted, dignified hues over bold, straightforward hues. Danilovskii's paintings are constructed from life observations, sketches, photographs, and research into the works of other painters over the years.
