Armen Avetisyan was born in 1948 in Armenia, in the city of Kirovakan (now Vanadzor). 1962-1964 - studied at the art school in Yerevan. Without completing his studies, he returned to Kirovakan, where he worked in his father’s studio as a graphic designer.

In 1973 he moved to Leningrad, took the name Armen to emphasize his belonging to the Armenian people. Since 1976, he has actively participated in numerous apartment exhibitions. On July 4, 1982, Armen was arrested and imprisoned in Kresty. The city prosecutor gave the sanction for his arrest. They conducted searches of the house and workshop. The workshop was destroyed and taken away as being used for other purposes. After the arrest, they began to look for an article of law to charge. Nothing was found. The trial at which the charges were brought took place only four months later; he was sentenced to 10 months on charges of tax evasion (this had never happened to artists before). After his release, Armen began to actively cooperate with the public charitable foundation "Crosses". In 1996, Armen's personal exhibition and Boris Grebenshchikov's concert took place at Kresty.

On November 2, 2003, Armen died in the hospital. He was buried at the Smolensk Armenian Cemetery near the temple, restored with his assistance.
