António Batalha was born in Almeida on September 10, 1911 and from there he went to the city of Viseu at the age of 1 year. Self-taught painter António Batalha, he never attended regular painting courses, but received lessons from José Augusto Pereira and Alda Beatriz Pereira. When he reaches his age (in the 1930s), he moved to Lisbon to develop his passion for painting. In the following years he was developing his technique with regard to painting.

In the 1950s, already living in Viseu, where he had a studio at Rua Direita Nº81, he worked many times in the cities of Porto and Lisbon, essentially in the painting of requested portraits.

He exhibited individually in Porto (1951,1955,1956,1958, e1962); in Coimbra (1952); in Lisbon (1954 and 1955), in Viseu (1962). He participated in collective exhibitions at the National Society of Fine Arts (1949, between 1951 and 1960 and 1963), Lisbon (1966); Viseu (1956,1960,1961,1964,1965,1969). He has been a member of the GAP Group of Portuguese artists since 1956. The "Royal Academy of History and Fine Arts" of Toledo (Spain) awarded him the title and the corresponding Academic Honor Necklace. The following year he obtains a third medal of (painting) in the National Society of Fine Arts.

In the 70s and 80s it was very much requested to participate in several works in the city of Viseu, from drawing the statue of the infant Dom Henrique, drawing several posters of the S. Mateus Fair, drawing the internal architecture of several of the main stores from the city. At that time, (Exp. Gelgo, Casa Borges, Goldsmiths Play, Café Restaurant Infante, among many others) he was asked to redecorate private spaces, in addition to painting that in those decades he worked on orders and painted many families with national status, also He painted many views of the city of Viseu, as well as still lifes.

António Batalha died in Viseu on February 4, 1992. He is represented in the Grão Vasco National Museum (Viseu) and dozens of private collections and public institutions.
