Serge Labégorre est né à Talence (Gironde) en 1932. D’une longue maladie qui le contraint à l’immobilité, Labégorre saura faire une force : la peinture sera son mode d’expression et il y consacrera toute sa vie. La rencontre, au collège de Libourne, avec le professeur de dessin de “génie”, Henri Charnay, sera une deuxième opportunité dans sa vie d’artiste.
“Celui qui a une bonne écriture dessine bien” (proverbe japonais). Des œuvres de Serge Labégorre, la force du dessin retient d’emblée l’attention. Ses visages nous subjuguent : le trait est sûr, sans ambigüité, le regard est vif, pénétrant, déterminé, et le fond noir qui l’entoure, loin de l’engloutir, relève encore davantage sa détermination. Le corps suit naturellement, avec une audace des couleurs et de la matière, auréolé de lumière. C’est un hymne à la vie, une victoire pour la vie, malgré ses vicissitudes. Il n’y a pas de désespoir dans l’œuvre de Labégorre, seulement la force de vaincre et de rendre à l’être humain toute sa noblesse.
