Carmen Selma, born in Valencia in Spain, now lives and works in France. An accomplished artist, she specializes in oil painting on linen, watercolor on paper and pencil drawing on paper.

After graduating from the Valencia School of Fine Arts in 2004, Carmen Selma quickly established herself on the artistic scene. In 2005 she received the Art Nalon de Langreo National Plastic Arts Prize, awarded by the Principality of Asturias. His career then took off internationally, with exhibitions in numerous galleries in Spain, Italy, Austria, England, Belgium and France. His works have been recognized with several prestigious awards, such as the Premio de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in Valencia and the Certamen de Arte Joven in Madrid.

Carmen Selma's art has attracted the interest of many critics and art historians. Among notable publications, Austrian art historian Birgit Strasser-Huber wrote an article about Selma in the art magazine Vernissage n°314, published on the occasion of its exhibition at the Cervantes Institute in Vienna in 2012. In 2014, the French journalist Virginie Moureau also devoted an article to her work in issue 3013 of L'Hérault Juridique & économique.

For Carmen Selma, painting is a form of activism. It seeks to provoke a real contact, to arouse emotions, memories and reflections in the viewer. His works go beyond simple decorative art; they aim to actively involve the public. Many of his paintings depict repeated family scenes and social traditions, such as weddings, birthdays, journeys, communions and baptisms. The characters in his works often seem incapable of expressing their feelings or emotions in words. At first glance, these scenes appear to be simple celebrations captured on camera. However, Carmen Selma subtly reminds the viewer that appearances can be deceiving, inviting deeper reflection on the truths hidden behind the images.
