Assem, whose real name is Guillaume Assemien, was born on January 10, 1982 in Ivory Coast. Endowed with an innate gift for drawing from childhood, he only practiced art academically in 6th grade at college. After that, he passionately exploited his talent throughout his high school career, encouraged by his friends and teachers. This passion for the visual arts in general did not disappear, even after obtaining his literary BAC in 2001. Assem decided to sacrifice the same year, his admission to the language faculty in favor of the entrance exam to the fine arts of Abidjan to which he was received. Despite his shortcomings from a technical and theoretical point of view, determination ultimately led him to be among the best in his workshop (wall art workshop). After completing his university career at the National School of Fine Arts in Abidjan, in 2008 he obtained the teaching aptitude certificate for teaching plastic arts in high schools and colleges. Since 2010 to date, Guillaume Assemien has taught visual arts in high schools and colleges on behalf of the Ivorian State. However, the passion and practice of painting never left his habits. This is how, between group and individual exhibitions, he was able to maintain the balance between his profession and his passion. Assem paints canvases by cutting out the elements according to which he perceives each component of existence as being a dimension in its own right. His style is a mixture inspired by cubist techniques but which draws its essence from the ideal of surrealism. Influenced by his workshop masters (James Houra Kadio, Mensah, Esso), he was able to translate surrealist consciousness through cubist expression which makes his art a colorful and expressive mixture which promotes #039;opening the mind.
