Aoi Huber was born in Tokyo in 1936 and grew up in a lively and creative environment that stimulated his interest in graphics: his father, Takashi Kono, began his activity as an independent graphic designer with a home studio in the 1950s. After art high school, Aoi graduated from Tokyo University of Art and Music. In 1960, on the advice of his father, he left for Stockholm where he attended a graphic design course at the school of arts and crafts. A year later she moved to Milan where she executed numerous drawings and illustrations for various publishers, collaborating with Max Huber, whom she married in 1962. In 1970 Aoi moved with her husband to Sagno, in the Canton of Ticino, Switzerland. In 1976 he held his first personal exhibition of paintings and drawings in Zurich, followed by numerous personal and collective exhibitions in various countries: Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Japan, Spain, Poland. In the same period the artist worked on designs for fabrics, scarves, tiles, ceramics, toys, illustrations and carpets. The color used with ease, the irregularly quadrangular shapes, the rhythmic divisions that change sign and movement, the harmonious interaction of two cultures, the eastern and the western, are the elements that characterize the entire work of Aoi Huber : from graphics to painting, from engraving to ceramics and carpets. the interminable search for simplicity, the ability to present himself as a curious artist, which unites his work with that of the admired Milanese artist Bruno Munari, with whom he worked in the seventies, both in the need to explore new techniques for implementing artistic making. Aoi currently lives in the Canton of Ticino, in Novazzano, where she continues her artistic journey in her little world, between East and West, with her cats and the help of her numerous friends.
