Bill James was a B.F.A. graduate of Syracuse University. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators, represented by Joe Mendola of NY city and a member of several national fine art societies including the National Watercolor Society, the American Watercolor Society, Oil Painters of America and Pastel Society of America. He was given the title of "Master Pastelist" by the Pastel Society of America, "Dolphin Fellow" by the American Watercolor Society, and "Life Member" by the Southern Watercolor Society.
Bill's paintings using pastel, watercolor, oil, and graphite along with articles about his work have been included in many fine art books and magazines. Some of the publishers and publications are Watson-Guptill, North Light Books, Rockport Publishers, F&W Publications, Quarto Publishing (England), American Artist, Watercolor Artist's Magazine, Pastel Journal, International Artist, and Pratique Des Arts (France). Bill James was also a writer for International Artist Magazine, which is published in many different languages.
