Marcel Dorthe, en parallèle du métier d'agriculteur, s'est toujours consacré à sa vocation picturale qui était née un jour d'éblouissement, dans un champ, en regardant un artiste peindre. Son métier de la terre l'a quotidiennement mis en contact avec la beauté de la Création. Sa rencontre avec la nature lui a fait découvrir toute la poésie du monde en quintessence.
L'art de Marcel Dorthe n'aurait pu éclore sans la découverte d'un médium artistique extraordinaire, le pastel. Les couleurs des surfaces changent d'après les teintes avoisinantes, et les dégradés permettent ces passages de luminosité. L'artiste intègre à sa création des pierres, de la terre et de la feuille d'or. Mêlés aux ombre qui se colorent, des fermes et des arbres se dessinent, ressemblant, par leur incandescence, à des vitraux.
Après de nombreuses expositions dans toute la Suisse et plusieurs commandes d'oeuvres, notamment liturgiques, il acquiert en 2004 la Chapellenie de Rue et transforme la maison en un lieu d'exposition idéal.
