It was pure happenstance that I realized such a sensational convergence of light and contrast were coming alive on top of my microwave. It was early morning as I rushed into the adjoining 'everything' room to grab my Sony a6000. I knew I had to move quickly - and then I had a vastly marvelous idea: Turn on the Ikea lightbox against the right side of [...]
It was pure happenstance that I realized such a sensational convergence of light and contrast were coming alive on top of my microwave. It was early morning as I rushed into the adjoining 'everything' room to grab my Sony a6000. I knew I had to move quickly - and then I had a vastly marvelous idea: Turn on the Ikea lightbox against the right side of the micro and wait for it to run through its color sequences - I wanted a soft, warm color flash. BUT, time was fading away to get this shot!
In the next 5 seconds the 'moment' cam to reality and I was ready. I had one chance to nab it. AND, I got it. What a great feeling I shall never forget in that early morning on Upper Chapel St. in New Haven, Ct. I hope you are energized by this statement of nature and light - Steve Peery, always alert for the next possibility because this is my life and my joy! USE A CAMERA TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND.

I started my quest for vibrant beauty at the age of 7 when I dragged a chair around our church hall to climb up and view every artwork in an exhibit.  I was thrilled!  Next cam BIG Crayola sets where I taught myself to glaze and scumble. Then I moved on to using my Dad's Fuji film camera and Bolex movie camera to discover hidden marvels. There were cameras and more cameras that opened up new worlds, especially with the advent of digital technology and the ability to tweak, adjust and see the result immediately.  I often worked into the night until the mockingbirds started to sing as dawn approached.  Urban New Haven, Ct. was my haunt, my inspiration.

While fine-art photography is crucial to my soul, I never abandoned drawing ideas and musing about the 'just so', divine curve burned like a torch into blue or a tree with an incomprehensible personality or the strong richness of shadows challenging the clarity of light racing along surfaces.  Notebooks of ideas galore - and always yet another in the next second.

Mixed media, photography, drawing, painting dreams - all my joy and my love of life!  I hope you find my artwork just as liberating and powerful.  Let it sing to you and open the doors of wonder  

I don't have kudos or an MFA - I just do the work.  No format or a career plan or a tedious concern for what's 'hot'.  I charge forward into magic.
