It was 1985, and my grandfather Mario Penelope, historian and art critic, who was president in 1971 at the Venice International Art Biennale, wrote: 
In September I started experimenting with the computer.
The impact with the machine was very violent, impressive; for so many nights I continued to dream about colors, colors, and colors.
Now at a distance of two months, I begin to think that art with computer is truly an extraordinary adventure of thought and expression. It seems to me that it is like a solitary flight through the "all", looking for the limits between reality and fantasy. It seems to me that we can meet the desire to shape that something we know, but that we do not know yet. But there is a need to know if it is possible to capture the impalpable and make it Art.
... I think the computer can allow a new "humanism" because it needs new philosophers, new imaginative research strategies that lead us to the discovery of new worlds, where perhaps it will be impossible to distinguish the imagery from the real, the reflected form from its object.
