Jules Dupre (1811-1889) born in Nantes, began painting Alpine scenes on clock cases and working in a porcelain factory. At 19 he exhibited a picture in the salon and from that time on he was given medals and honors, f.e.in 1849 he received the Legion of Honor. He ended his career as one of the most famous and sought after artists of the Ecole de Barbizon.
His works are in museums throughout the world.
