About the author
Nicola Reich is a contemporary female sculptor from Germany. She makes her sculptures out of paper, and she uses the process of covering (gluing paper to paper). Some works are created from molds that she makes from models, the cavities of which are partially filled with sand. By shifting the sand, the center of gravity changes and thus also the position of the sculpture. Other works are derived from two basic forms (A+B) and are also filled with sand.
The paper character, i.e. the lightness of the paper, is lost in the course of the creation process. The sculptures become heavy, hard and stone-like. Paper is no longer recognizable as the starting material.
Nicola Reich was born in 1961, in Bremen, Germany. She is a Member of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA).
